Preparing Your Home for Summer Vacation

Preparing Your Home for Summer Vacation

Now that summer is here, it is time to start thinking about preparing your home for vacation! Unfortunately, leaving your home unattended can lead to possible disasters that you will be unaware of until you come back. There is nothing worse than coming home from a fantastic vacation only to find your home suffering from water damage or to get a call that your home is engulfed in flames. Mr. Restore knows exactly what you need to do before you leave in order to prevent possible damage and enjoy a carefree summer vacation.

Check Appliances and Pipes for Leaks to Avoid Water Damage

In order to prevent water damage while you are away, check all of your appliances to be sure there are no leaks. Double-check your dishwasher, water heater, and washing machine. Be sure to check the pipes under the sinks in your bathrooms and kitchen for any dripping water.

Unplug All Electronics to Avoid Fire Damage

We suggest unplugging all of your major electronics while you are away in order to prevent fires. According to the National Fire Protection Association, faulty electronics are a leading cause of house fires. You can unplug your televisions, computers, washers/dryers, and any other major electronic devices to help avoid a fire. This will also help save electricity while you are away!

Close All Windows and Check Gutters to Avoid Storm Damage

This may sound like a no-brainer, but you would be surprised by how many people forget about one or two windows before they leave for vacation. Storm and water damage can be much more severe by making its way into your home through an open window.

We also suggest that you clean your gutters and drainpipes from any debris, dirt, or leaves before a vacation. If a gutter or drainpipe is cluttered or clogged, the water from heavy rain cannot pass through. This backed-up water can then floods into your home while you are away. Have Someone You Trust Check-In Periodically

Find a family member or neighbor that you trust to check your home periodically to make sure everything is working properly. Be sure to have them check the thermostat, water heater, and around your pipes to ensure everything appears normal. In the event of a serious storm, ask them to walk around your property and inside your home to check for serious damage.

After you have checked everything, enjoy your summer holiday! Relax and rest easy, knowing that if something does go wrong while you are away, Mr. Restore will help you and your home get back to normal. With over 50 years of experience, we are here for all your restoration needs.
