There are three types of water that can can cause damage to your property and possessions. They are classified according to where the water originated and how contaminated the water is. Mr Restore will use different techniques to repair the damage depending on what type of water has lead to the catastrophe.
1. Clean Water - This is often referred as “Category 1” water damage. Clean water originates from sources in your home that are considered sanitary. Water damage caused by clean water is considered safe and does not have any toxins or hazardous materials that could be considered dangerous. Common sources of clean water include broken pipes, bathtubs and sinks, and drinking fountains. Although damage caused by clean water is considered safe, this does not mean you should handle the damage on your own or wait to contact Mr Restore. The longer you wait, the possibility of additional structural damage increase.
2. Gray Water- Category 2 water damage, or Gray Water, is water that could be considered contaminated. Gray water often has chemicals that lead to further water damage and is considered dangerous if consumed. Most gray water originated from sources that include cleaning chemicals, such as soap or laundry detergents. Common causes of gray water damage originate from washing machines, dishwashers, and precipitation (rain and snow). Again, it is critical that you contact Mr Restore as soon as possible to avoid further damage. The longer you wait, the more likely the gray water will turn into Black Water.
3. Black Water - Black water is the most dangerous and severe type of water that leads to damage. Black water is considered extremely toxic and should be handled immediately by a restoration professional to avoid health hazards. Black water usually consists of human and animal waste and is typically caused by a backed up sewage line, an overflowed toilet, and floodwaters. Black water carries threatening contaminants and bacteria that could be considered life threatening. Contact with black water will not only cause illnesses, but could lead to rashes and skin infections. Only trained professionals and the proper equipment can handle Black Water.
