The 3 Different Types of Water Damage

The Mr. Restore Team has responded to thousands of water damage calls over the past 30 years. We have seen it all, from burst pipes, leaky appliances, and serious flooding. Each of these types of water damage, along with others, leads to different types of water that invades your home. Depending on the source, some types of water damage are more dangerous to your health and your belongings.

If you suffer from water damage in Dallas or Fort Worth, Texas, it is important that you are aware of the different classifications of water and the related water damage. Some types of water are more contaminated than others. If the water is contaminated, it can lead to serious health issues and the growth of other bacteria. Mr. Restore uses different techniques and equipment depending on where the water damage originated. Take extra precaution and be aware of the following types of water that causes water damage:

  1. Clean Water

The first category of water-types is called “clean water.” Clean water comes from water sources in your home that are considered sanitary. Common sources include broken pipes, bathtubs, sinks, and other clean water sources. Category one is referred to as clean water because it does not have any toxins or hazardous materials. The water is not dangerous and is considered safe.

Although clean water is generally considered safe to handle, this does not mean that you should attempt to clean up the water yourself. It is likely that you do not have the appropriate equipment needed to handle water damage jobs. Even the cleanest water can lead to mold and mildew growth if not handled quickly and properly by a professional.

         2. Greywater

The second category that causes water damage is greywater. Greywater is usually contaminated from chemicals and cleaning products, such as detergent and soap. When consumed greywater can be extremely dangerous. Greywater usually originates from washing machines, dishwashers, precipitation, and bathtubs/showers.

It is crucial that you contact a restoration professional as soon as you notice greywater has been sitting in an area of your home. Greywater is not safe to leave sitting simply because it may have cleaning products in it. The longer you wait, the more likely the greywater can turn to blackwater, resulting in even more damage. Be sure to get the water extracted by a professional.

          3.Blackwater

Blackwater is the last and most dangerous type of water that leads to damage. Blackwater carries threatening contaminants and bacteria that could be considered life-threatening. It originates from human and animal waste and contains contaminants that are extremely toxic. Blackwater typically occurs after a sewage line malfunctions or a serious flood occurs. It is vital that you immediately contact a restoration company to decontaminate the area and begin assessing the damage. Do not ever attempt to clean blackwater yourself. Contact with blackwater can lead to skin irritants and serious illness.

No matter what caused the damage or what type of water has invaded your home, our professionals at Mr. Restore understand what actions need to be taken when damage from water occurs. Contact Mr Restore immediately so we can pursue the damage repair process and get your life back to normal!
